Michelle Vine's Tactile Picnic

Experience the cozy vibes of texture exploration at Mango Hill YMCA or Kallangur Neighbourhood Centre, for free! Reflect, explore, connect and share with others at this interactive pop-up installation by artist Michelle Vine.

You're guided through the tactile terrain to remove your shoes, sit, kneel, lie, slouch, curl up or relax in a chair. Michelle's artwork encourages you to use your sense of touch and sight to return to your inner self.

Let your body choose how to interact with the installation and find ways to nurture your first home — your body and mind.

About your host

Michelle Vine is an installation, performance, and photo media artist. Her current practice is centred on touch. She aims to bring awareness to this neglected sense, whilst disrupting sight’s dominance of the art experience.

She focuses on the body and the gallery as sites for investigating sensory knowledge formation. Using a phenomenological approach, informed by affect theory, sensory neuroscience and her lived experiences of neurodiversity and chronic illness.

A key goal of Vine’s practice is to create playful, positive, embodied art experiences that allow for greater inclusion for audiences of diverse ages and disabilities and/or access needs.

• Touch and Tactility in Art at Kemper Art Museum, Washington University in St Louis, USA.

In 2019, Vine graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art (First Class Honours) from the Queensland College of Art (QCA). She is now employed as a Lecturer in Visual Art at QCA focused on arts-health and wellbeing.
