Kids moulding clay shapes

Art Kids is a fortnightly program designed to engage young artists in hands-on making and exploration of exhibitions at Pine Rivers Art Gallery.

Art kids can expect to learn new skills, connect with their peers, explore different ways of art-making, and most importantly, have fun!

Each session starts with a captivating exploration of artworks, sparking discussions and igniting curiosity around a specific piece.

Parents are welcome to join in or relax in the gallery. All children must be accompanied by an adult during their visit. Places limited, bookings essential.

Pine Rivers Art Gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

8 February: Memory monuments

Artist Elisa Jane Carmichael makes necklaces using materials that are gathered on Country so that, when she wears them, she carries Country with her.

Learn to make a beaded bag tag or keyring dedicated to a memory of a place, person, or thing that is significant to you, to carry wherever you go.

22 February: Painting on Porcelain

The artworks in Deep Blue map the land and waters of Quandamooka Country. Each work details the strength and abundance of Country and of place.

In this workshop, attendees will create their own mini maps, detailing a memory through adorning a porcelain tile with porcelain paint.

22 March: Iron-on emblems

What's a superhero without an emblem? How else will you know if they're a bird, plane or Superman?

Create your own emblem in iron-on patch form. In this session, attendees will learn how to create iron-on patches to share with the world who they are and what matters to them.

5 April: Zine making

A zine is a self-published, easily reproduced, printed booklet which can be traced back to the 1930s, when science fiction fans began publishing self-published magazines to share their thoughts and build community.

Underground publications have long been a way for people to share stories, raise awareness for causes that matter to them, and connect with their communities.

In this workshop, learn about the origins of zine-making, and develop your very own one-of-a-kind publication to share your story.

3 May: Soft and strong sculptures

Soft sculpture is a type of three-dimensional art that uses non-rigid materials like cloth, foam, rubber, or paper to create objects that are soft, squishy, or bent.

In this workshop, create a soft sculpture that celebrates strength. Stitch together your superpower, tape together your truth, or hot glue a mini hero.

17 May: Mini clay creatures

Using air dry clay, learn to form small-scale figurines in this hands-on workshop.

Attendees will learn handbuilding techniques, including scoring and slipping, as well as how to make a body, limbs, head, and other small details.
