Australians have prided themselves on their kitschy, oversized, roadside attractions since the Big Scotsman, Big Banana and Big Trout appeared in the 1960s, but are they a quintessentially ‘Aussie’ kind of landmark?

In this talk, Dr Amy Clarke will share the fascinating and often quirky history of Big Things in Australia, consider the heritage challenges in keeping these icons going in the 21st century, and reveal their surprising presence in countries as far-flung as Malaysia, Tunisia, France and Brazil.

Free. Morning tea provided. Bookings essential for catering purposes.

After the event, explore the Defining Symbols of Australia exhibition.
