Friday 28 February: Blind drawing
Considering Joe Furlonger’s abstraction of the landscape and figuration we will be exploring the practice of blind drawing. This is drawing by looking at a subject while not looking at your page, freeing up your creative flow. Using lots of coloured pencils and markers, at the end of the evening you will have a series of fun abstract drawings.
Friday 21 March: Abstract collage
Inspired by the abstract works in the current exhibitions, we will be making an abstract collage. A technique that allows you to have fun with materials and colours. Tear, cut, glue, and draw to produce an artwork that is meaningful to you.
Friday 11 April: Activist posters with guest artist Libby Harward
This month we’ll be joined by 15 Artists' exhibiting artist Libby Harward to create a protest poster. Libby is a descendant of the Ngugi people of Mulgumpin (Moreton Island) in the Quandamooka, with a political art practice that focuses on decolonising and truth telling.
In this workshop you will be guided by Libby and Deb as activist artists, to create a poster for something you are passionate about. Using painting and drawing this activity will be a creative release by sharing your voice on something that matters to you.
While making, hear more from Libby about her arts practice and how she uses art to create dialogue around issues important to her.
Friday 9 May: Abstracting landscapes
Joe Furlonger’s artworks convey a deep appreciation for the landscape with sometimes minimal detail. In this workshop we’ll be breaking down the landscape to its essential qualities (line, colour, shape) and experimenting with abstraction to create a Furlonger-inspired artwork.
Friday 13 June: Still life and botanicals
In this workshop we will take inspiration from the still life category in the Redcliffe Art Society's Exhibition of Excellence [link: RAS exhibition].
We will draw and colour botanicals and flowers using pencils and oil pastels. Starting with a single stem, we will build our confidence up to work on a floral still life to be proud of. No prior experience or knowledge required just bring your enthusiasm.
About the facilitator
Dr Deborah Eddy offers experienced and beginner artists an inclusive, relaxing, and friendly workshop experience. She follows the ‘there is no right or wrong in art’ school of thought which ensures that participants never feel they are not good enough. Deborah has a Doctorate in Visual Art and brings her depth of knowledge and her own art practice to the lessons she gives. This makes for a rich experience for participants who will learn a little art history and perhaps something about new techniques and materials.
