This National Reconciliation Week you’re invited to explore an alternative national narrative at the opening event of skeletons, a profound exhibition of work by Waanyi artist Judy Watson.

The 2025 National Reconciliation Week theme is Bridging Now to Next. This theme reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future and encourages all Australians to learn from our shared histories to create a stronger future.

skeletons, developed and toured by Queensland State Archives and curated by Amanda Hayman, sheds light on a history buried and undisclosed, while recognising the continuation of Aboriginal resistance. Through video works and her distinctive textile pieces, Watson explores the controverted histories that provide moments of recognition for First Nation peoples, acknowledging their hardship, resilience, spirit and continued sovereignty.

This event will include a Welcome to Country and short speeches followed by a tour of the exhibition by Amanda Hayman, skeletons curator and co-Director of Blaklash.

Free - bookings required. All welcome. Light refreshments will be provided.

The exhibition is curated by Amanda Hayman of Blaklash, supported by Milani Gallery, and commissioned by Queensland State Archives.
