Redcliffe League Great Recognised

Redcliffe football great, Des Webb will be formally recognised for his contribution to the peninsula football community on Friday, October 6, with a memorial declared in his honour at the entrance to Dick Tosser Turner Fields, Kippa-Ring.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor, Allan Sutherland said the memorial was a fitting tribute to a Dolphins legend.

“Des was respected by many for his skills, passion and determination both on and off the field,” Mayor Sutherland said.

“During his years as Chairman for both the Leagues Club and Dolphins, Des’ greatest legacy was his work as a role model and inspiration to the football team’s young stars of the future.

“Des Webb is a legend of Redcliffe Rugby League and the memorial built in his honour recognises an extraordinary contribution to our community over the years.”

A paved timeline, built in partnership with the Redcliffe Dolphins, highlights Des Webb’s many achievements, and includes a memorial plaque on a sandstone plinth.

Des Webb was born in 1937, played for the Redcliffe Dolphins from 1956 to 1969 and was chairman of the club for 23 years from 1988 until his passing in 2011. The father of two died in June, 2011.

The Des Webb memorial will officially be opened on site of this Friday, October 6 at 6.00pm.
