Moreton Bay Council is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for a number of regionally-benefitting services including destination management and events, to support the implementation of the Council’s Regional Economic Development Strategy (REDS).

Mayor Peter Flannery said he was issuing reminder, with one more week to lodge EOIs.

“We want to ensure the region has recruited the best of the best in tourism and marketing experts to help chart a way to economic recovery through the global coronavirus pandemic,” he said.

“Our new REDS acknowledges the need to advance our region by embracing new technologies, attracting new investment, supporting existing industries and exploring new market opportunities, but that’s just the start.

“In order to evolve our economy and transform as a region to become the jobs and innovation hub of South East Queensland, we also need to be pushing the boundaries of our tourism, attractions and events offerings as part of this evolution.

“Personally, I want to see EOI proposals that articulate how we can support the incredible number of small businesses in this region to identify growth opportunities so that they can employ more people.

“We need to transform our image towards a modern and competitive Moreton Bay business environment.”

The Regional Economic Development Strategy outlines how the region can reach its 2041 goals of being “Bigger, Bolder, Brighter:

  • Bigger: With a $40 billion economy.
  • Bolder: With 16,000 new businesses.
  • Brighter: With 100,000 new jobs.

Mayor Flannery said the previous Economic Development Strategy had a strong focus on traditional industries, which has provided us with solid foundations for success.

“But rapid technological advancements since 2008, major changes in industry and manufacturing and of course the impacts of COVID-19 mean the world has changed forever,” he said.

“That’s why everything is on the table right now and that’s why we’ll be calling for EOI proposals to establish the market interest and viability in a range of regional initiatives including destination management, economic development, and business support.

“I want to get the attention of innovators, inventors, entrepreneurs and startup owners so that they’re looking at prospects in Moreton Bay Region.

“I especially want to know that the ratepayers and residents of Moreton Bay Region are getting the very best value for their buck from every function of their Council.

“And I want to do everything within Council’s powers to ensure our local economy is firing on all cylinders, as we rebuild in the wake of the pandemic.

“This EOI process will specifically explore how we can go further in supporting tourism, innovation, start-ups, and entrepreneurship to enhance the identity and lifestyle of our amazing Moreton Bay Region.

“The EOI process allows Council to consider proposals and determine which provide the best overall benefit to the region, before inviting written tenders for further consideration.”

EOIs are open until 9 December 2020 and interested parties can download information from Council’s website: https://www.lgtenderbox.com.au/tender/view?id=228561
