Major events are back in Moreton Bay

Dust off the calendar and start making plans again, because major events will be back in Moreton Bay this October!

In fact we’re bursting back onto the scene with some of our most popular gigs: Jetty 2 Jetty fun run, Moreton Kids Festival and Pine Rivers Park Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

The strict COVID Safe plans for all three have been approved by the Chief Health Officer.

Mayor Peter Flannery said no one has missed events more than him.

“As mayor I’m hungry for this kind of economic activity, as a resident I can’t wait to bring back the local vibe and as a dad I’m desperate for new ways to get the kids outside,” he said.

“The fact that we can get outside and enjoy the beach and events like this while other parts of the world are still in lockdown, is entirely thanks to locals for being so disciplined about following social distancing and hygiene rules.

“So you’ve earned this!

“Events aren’t just a great time, they’re a lifeline for local entertainers, food vendors and the hotel industry who’ve been hit hard by COVID019 restrictions.

“Council has rolled out a number of stimulus packages, including refunding food licence fees to local businesses, but what they need most is your support.

“So please get behind our local businesses and come out to celebrate a well-deserved party.”

Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism CEO Shane Newcombe said the organisation had worked hard to ensure events could be run safely.

“Moreton Bay is just minutes away from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, so I’m hoping for an influx of visitors with events coming back online,” he said.

“We’ve been working with Moreton Bay Regional Council to create a supercharged events program to be rolled out for the rest of the year and into 2021.

“Events contribute significantly to our $1 billion tourism economy and drive tourism is the most important component of that.

“So, if you’re in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast or anywhere else in South East Queensland, jump in the car and make the short trip here.

“Your perfect holiday destination is just minutes away, here in Moreton Bay.”
