Ningi & Toorbul Waste Transfer Stations open to help storm clean-up
Published 08 December 2020
The Ningi and Toorbul Waste Transfer Stations will be open all day tomorrow (Ningi) and Thursday 10 Dec (Toorbul), from 7am to 6pm, to help locals clean up after yesterday’s wild weather.
Mayor Peter Flannery said there’d be no limits on what households can dump, but the usual rules apply to commercial operators.
“We want locals back up on their feet as quickly as possible,” Mayor Flannery said.
“By opening up Ningi tomorrow and Toorbul on Thursday, we’ll save locals the drive to Caboolture as they work to remove debris and storm damage from their properties.
“We’re also suspending the usual load limits for domestic customers at these stations until COB on Tuesday 15 December 2020.
“That means households will be able to bring larger loads than the usual 1.5 cubic metre limit, to help you clean up your place faster and with no additional expense.
“Council crews and contractors will also be out continuing with the clean-up of Council parks and road reserves, and we’re organising additional bins and frequency of collections at the stations to help.”
Commercial operators will still need to go to Caboolture, as the facilities can’t handle large commercial vehicles.
Cr Brooke Savige (Div 1) said thanked Council officers for responding to her request to open the stations.
“This truly has been a massive community effort in the last 24 hours, with emergency crews working through the night to have almost everyone reconnected to power within 24 hours of the storm hitting,” she said.
“Energex crews worked through the night and the SES have done an absolutely outstanding job helping people with emergency repairs.
“I think opening Ningi and Toorbul is a practical and sensible way Council can help, and I want to thank staff for expediting this action.”
