Postpone Your Tip Trips Until You’re Full

Moreton Bay Regional Council’s tips have been inundated with more than double the amount of waste it received this time last year, but they will remain open under strict social distancing rules.

Over a three-week period, the Waste Services Team processed nearly 80,000 vehicles and more than 130,000 customers across all facilities.

But Mayor Peter Flannery is urging tip trippers to ensure they postpone their visits until they have a full load.

“I know Logan City Council has had to close their services because people were flouting the rules, so I want to praise Moreton Bay residents for being so patient and courteous through this unusual period of time,” he said.

“Our amazing Waste Services Team has been working in overdrive since COVID-19 social distancing regulations came into effect.

“This is a by-product of residents rightly doing their best to stay active by taking on small demolition and renovation jobs around the home.

“But these jobs create a tonne of waste - 27,000 tonnes to be precise.

“We have implemented a host of social distancing regulations specifically for our waste facilities so that we can continue to responsibly process these loads.

“But it’s vitally important everyone does their part to keep these facilities open by following a few simple rules:

  • Postpone your trips until you have a full load
  • Plan or stagger household clean-ups, so you make the most of your kerbside collection service every week
  • Ensure you reuse, recycle or repurpose your waste materials
  • Make sure your loads are secure
