Live shows have today returned to Moreton Bay’s premier performance venue, revealing a new makeover for the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre.
After four months of coronavirus closure, S'Wonderful - a Tribute to the Ladies of the 40's, 50's,and 60's’ performed by Melly and her band, was a sell-out success to crowd of more than 200 people singing along through the decades.
Moreton Bay Region Mayor Peter Flannery said he was excited to roll out the red carpet and welcome back residents and visitors, while the venue temporarily operates at reduced capacity to ensure social distancing.
“The venue is now 38 years old and we took the opportunity to upgrade some of the larger parts while we were forced to closed down,” he said.
“There’s now a new stage floor and auditorium carpet, the team conducted a full safety audit, and implemented new safety procedures and staff training.
“There's been a lot of behind the scenes work from the team, who no doubt felt like it was a long four-month project!
“I’d like to say a big thank you to our great team at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre and our amazing supporters who helped make this great comeback possible!
“And I’d like to reassure visitors that all precautions are being taken when it comes to their health and safety.”
Singer Melanie Evans said times had been tough with work stopping but the thought of getting back on the stage was enough to keep her motivated to continue.
“I think the first month was a huge shock, and many creatives I know, including myself, lost the desire to do anything. It's next to impossible to create when you are in survival mode!” she said.
“It has however been a great opportunity to practice and develop skills. I believe audiences are as excited as we are to be back in theatres and venues, and although we have a way to go, I think we will definitely see a boom in entertainment.
“We couldn’t wait to be back in front of a live audience again, and it's always a pleasure to be working with the amazing team at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre.
“Moreton Bay is super lucky to have such a lovely venue available, I've performed there a number of times over the years and it's certainly one of my favourite spots.”
When asked what Melanie loved most about Moreton Bay, she said it was an easy answer.
“I love the diversity here, you can be strolling down the pier at Redcliffe after having been to the markets or a show or taking a beautiful scenic drive out to the charming historic village of Dayboro where someone will be riding a horse down the main street!”
