City of Moreton Bay’s Redcliffe Library has emerged better than ever after extensive renovations, with the new contemporary public space set to serve the community for years to come.
The recent upgrades have unveiled several additional spaces including a flexible event area with an accessible stage and state-of-the-art audio-visual technology, a local history room, two new creative spaces, a quiet reading zone, a digital studio, and a Changing Places facility.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the recent Redcliffe Library upgrades exceeded his expectations, by enhancing this important community space into an inclusive and modern hub for all.
“The $1.725 million upgrade to Redcliffe Library, a significant investment from Council, has improved the internal spaces, enhancing flexibility, accessibility and functionality for the community,” Mayor Flannery said.
“I am particularly proud of the new Changing Places facility, the first of its kind in a public library in Queensland.
“This Changing Places facility is a certified accessible bathroom that provides safe and equitable access for people with high support needs, their carers, and support workers.
“We consulted people with high support needs, their carers, and local disability support providers to understand their needs when heading out and about, the barriers to accessing community spaces, and where Changing Places should be located, with Redcliffe Library noted as a priority in City of Moreton Bay.
“We want all residents to be able to participate in community life without limiting their access and the Changing Places facility removes that barrier.
Redcliffe Library’s Changing Places facility includes:
- A centrally located peninsula toilet with space for carers to stand on either side.
- A privacy screen.
- A height-adjustable adult-size change table.
- A constant charging ceiling track hoist system.
City of Moreton Bay Councillor Karl Winchester (Div 6) also expressed his enthusiasm for the upgrades, recognising how well loved this space is by the local community.
“The renovations make this bustling community hub a more versatile space,” Cr Winchester said.
“We can now meet a variety of needs like hosting book launches for award-winning authors, classes to learn a new hobby like robotics or sewing and a music studio for local bands to record alongside ample space for families to sit, read and play, as well as a designated room for people to discover their local family history.”
