A favourite City of Moreton Bay summer hotspot gets a cool upgrade!

Parts of The Mill playground at Petrie are being upgraded with additional shade structures over the coming months.
Mayor Peter Flannery said our aim is to ensure everyone can enjoy this beautiful outdoor space while still being sun safe.
“Families from all over the City, and beyond, flock to The Mill splash park and playground to cool off on hot summer days and we're committed to making our play spaces safe and comfortable for everyone. That is why we’re investing in providing additional shade to the Petrie Mill play area,” he said.
“We’re dedicated to making our playgrounds fun and enjoyable, giving kids a perfect place to enjoy the beautiful outdoors in Moreton Bay.”
Cr Jim Moloney (Division 8) said the Petrie Mill playground is a popular destination, particularly on weekends, for families all year round but especially during the warmer months.
“While the playground has some existing shade, we realised that more could be done to keep it sun safe and to keep the play equipment cooler in the heat of summer,” he said.
“The areas that will be receiving the additional shade are the flying fox and the adventure play swing area.
“Though small areas of the adventure play zones will be temporarily closed for different stages of the construction, the impact will be minimal, and best of all the water park zone will remain open all summer long.”
City of Moreton Bay has recently awarded a tender for the construction of additional shade structures to cover high use areas of the Petrie Mill playground.
The project will begin late 2024 and is expected to be finished in early 2025.
