Black Spot eradicated from Moreton Bay roads with Arana Hills upgrade

Works to improve a well-known traffic black spot in the Hills District have begun to improve safety for all road users and increase vehicle capacity for the historically problematic intersection.
Upgrades to improve the Hutton Road, Caesar Road and Plucks Road Intersection in Arana Hills commenced with funding from the Federal Government Black Spot Program.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the works would help in keeping the community safe, no matter how they travel.
“Over the last five years, the number of serious crashes in the region has increased and in the past 2 to 3 years, the Queensland road toll has also grown,” he said.
“This Black Spot upgrade project in Arana Hills is just one way we are working towards a safer, more efficient and truly integrated transport network for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians alike.”
The Hon. Catherine King MP Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government said this project received one of the highest black spot spends in Queensland.
“Funding under the Black Spot Program is delivering much-needed safety upgrades to some of the most dangerous sections of Australian roads, making them safer and keeping commuters and freight moving across the country,” she said.
“We’ve invested $2M in this project at Arana Hills, working with City of Moreton Bay to deliver a safer transport network for all road users.”
The upgrade works at Hutton/Caesar/Plucks Roads will include:
- signalisation of the intersection
- dedicated pedestrian crossing facilities
- designated on road cyclist facilities
- extending the existing right turn lane on Plucks Road.
Councillor Matt Constance (Division 10) said the upgrade was critical to meeting the future demand for transport in and across our City, making the roads safer for all.
“Almost 25% of Moreton Says survey respondents identified that pedestrian and cyclist safety should be improved as a priority.
“Council is working hard to make our communities more walkable and rideable with a focus on integrated and sustainable transport solutions with less congestion.
“This upgrade is helping us to work toward that important goal.”
