Mayor Peter Flannery said it was wonderful to have a national spotlight on inclusivity and accessibility during Disability Action Week, but City of Moreton Bay provided year-round accessibility for all community members through various programs, initiatives and facilities.
“City of Moreton Bay is committed to being the most accessible city in South East Queensland and I am determined to see us lead the way in promoting inclusion, raising awareness, and advocating for the rights of individuals living with disabilities.
“It is critically important to ensure we continue to grow as an inclusive community where everyone, regardless of ability, has equal access and opportunity.
“I am enormously proud that City of Moreton Bay is the first local government in Australia to adopt a Changing Places Network Plan, setting a new standard for accessibility and committing to expanding specialised public restrooms designed for people with high support needs.
“During this Disability Action Week, our series of events and initiatives, are championing change, encouraging conversations and fostering connections to promote inclusivity.
“Our Beats by the Beach event not only features the extraordinary contributions of, and live performance by, individuals who identify as living with disabilities but also unites the community in a joyful celebration,” Mayor Flannery said.
