Damaged glasshouses being removed

An important milestone has been reached in revitalising the Samford glasshouse site, with the demolition and clearance of the old Samford glasshouse structures beginning this week.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the existing structures needed to be removed for safety, and to pave the way for future use of the site.

“A 2021 study revealed that the old glasshouse structures are now non-compliant and pose safety risks due to structural inadequacies and potential contamination,” Mayor Flannery said.

“The clearing of this site is an important step in progressing future plans, as the existing structures are more than 40 years old and very near to the end of their design life.

“Considering the site’s significance, we wanted to ensure the community were fully informed about this next step,” Mayor Flannery said.

Councillor Darren Grimwade (Div 11) thanked the community for being involved in consultation about the site.

“The extensive community feedback will be used to define the future use of the site, and I look forward to sharing more with residents as this is developed.

The demolition works are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
