Outdoor recreation in City of Moreton Bay is set to reach new heights with exciting new facilities for mountain bikers, skaters, and riders coming to Burpengary, North Lakes, and Deception Bay.

Mayor Peter Flannery said as the City continues to grow, Council is keeping up with the increasing demand for outdoor recreation opportunities.

“These projects are just a few of the ways we are delivering our Outdoor Recreation Plan and long-term vision for quality outdoor recreation opportunities for people of all ages, with a special focus on young people.

“We’ve heard the community calls for more purpose-built spaces like these that encourage active lifestyles and foster community connections.

“Burpengary is gearing up for its first-ever Council owned mountain bike trail, with construction now underway on a $700,000, three-kilometre trail system designed by experts.

“The Lagoon Road Mountain Bike Trails will get people outdoors, challenging themselves, and experiencing the natural beauty our City has to offer.

“We're proud to have recently upgraded three major district skate parks in Albany Creek, Deception Bay and Morayfield, and now we’re focusing on bringing a similar level of excitement and quality to our local level skate parks.

“Aurora Boulevard Skate Park in North Lakes is undergoing a major $900,000 upgrade that will transform the skate park into a modern, inclusive facility the community can enjoy for years to come.

“Deception Bay will also welcome a brand-new $530,000 pump track later this year, marking the second of its kind that has been delivered by City of Moreton Bay, with more on the horizon.

Councillor Mark Booth (Div 2) said the Lagoon Road Mountain Bike Trails give the community a space to connect, stay active and enjoy the great outdoors.

“This project was born out of my childhood memories of riding my bike from Narangba through Burpengary and across Morayfield to hang out with mates.

“I’m stoked we’re moving full speed ahead with this project that’s so close to my heart. I can’t wait to see this project come to life and for our community to start making memories on these tracks.”

Councillor Jodie Shipway (Div 4) said the North Lakes skate park upgrade was designed with the local community in mind.

“We know how important this skate park is to our local skaters, so we’re making sure the new design is built to provide a better ride for everyone.

“This new space is specifically designed to cater to young people who are building their skill levels, offering a safe learning environment for anyone interested in getting ready for the challenging district level facilities.”

Councillor Sandra Ruck (Div 5) said the exciting new pump track is the perfect way for all skill levels to come together and have fun.

“Pump tracks are quickly growing in popularity and are a fantastic way for riders to build their confidence and skills.

“The new pump track is a big win for Deception Bay, providing a dedicated space for kids, teens, and adults to enjoy wheeled sports in a safe environment.”

Council has engaged an industry professional trail company for the design and construction of the Lagoon Road Mountain Bike Trails, Burpengary. Construction is planned to start in April 2025 with completion expected in mid-2025*.

Construction on the Aurora Boulevard Skate Park, North Lakes is currently underway and is expected to be completed in mid-2025*. This project is jointly funded by City of Moreton Bay and the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
