The summer school holidays are here, and City of Moreton Bay has an incredible lineup of free activities to keep kids engaged, active, and learning all break long. From hands-on workshops to outdoor adventures, City of Moreton Bay’s Libraries, Galleries, and Museums, and Active Holidays program guarantee fun-filled days for children aged 3 to 17.

Mayor Peter Flannery knows how hard it is to keep the kids busy over the school holidays and keep costs down.

Here are the top 10 free school holiday activities across City of Moreton Bay this summer:

  1. Maximum Madness: Art Inspired by Mad Max - Caboolture Regional Art Gallery until 8 March 2025
    A must-see for fans of Mad Max and modern art featuring works by local and international artists. Adults and kids are invited to create their own artwork inspired by Mad Max.

  2. Deep Blue - Pine Rivers Art Gallery until 22 January 2025
    Dive into the deep oceanic world of Deep Blue, an exhibition exploring the sea's mysteries. Interactive activities allow visitors to engage with the art, and workshops tied to the exhibition provide opportunities to learn about oceanic ecosystems while creating their own sea-inspired pieces.

  3. Taking Flight: Amazing Migratory Shorebirds - Bribie Island Seaside Museum until 9 March 2025
    Experience the incredible journey of migratory shorebirds in Taking Flight. This exhibition highlights their extensive travels across the globe and focuses on the vital role that Moreton Bay's Pumicestone Passage plays in their migration.

  4. Defining Symbols of Australia - Pine Rivers Heritage Museum until 16 February 2025
    Explore the deep significance behind some of the country’s most iconic symbols—those that represent the essence of Australia’s culture and identity, both locally and globally.

  5. Shifting Shores - Redcliffe Museum until 11 May 2025
    Shifting Shores brings awareness to the changing coastal landscape of Moreton Bay, showcasing the dynamic processes of coastal erosion and its impact on the local ecosystem.

  6. Summer Reading Club - All City of Moreton Bay Libraries until 31 January 2025
    A fun way to encourage the whole family to spend more time reading over the summer. All reading counts - online and offline. Every 3 hours of reading can be entered into our prize draws.

  7. Songwriting for teens - Redcliffe Library
    Want to be the next Sabrina Carpenter? Discover the secrets of writing a great song with musician Aaron Shanahan from Imagine Music. Bookings required! Teens only require a ticket. Ages 12-17.

  8. Settlement Cove Lagoon - Redcliffe Parade
    Stay cool this summer in a stunning tropical-themed seafront public pool located on the Redcliffe Peninsula. Enjoy mushroom fountains for younger children, a nearby playground with swings and a slide, take a picnic and cook on the barbeques under plenty of shade.

  9. Marina’s Marine Adventure Puppet Show - Various City of Moreton Bay Libraries (various dates)
    Join the Larrikin Puppets team for an all-singing, all-dancing nautical puppet show! Enjoy the tale of three-year-old Marina, the little blue monster, and her big brother Troggg as they set sail on an exciting adventure exploring the ocean and meeting all the creatures that live there. Bookings required!

  10. Recycled sea creatures - Various City of Moreton Bay Libraries (various dates)
    Turn recycled materials into art with Raw Art! Be inspired by all the weird and wonderful creatures that live in the sea. Bookings required. Children only require a ticket. Ages 5-8.

City of Moreton Bay’s Libraries, Galleries, and Museums are also hosting an array of free events and activities throughout the holiday season, offering kids a chance to get creative, learn, and experience the arts. From interactive story times to engaging art days, our libraries and cultural facilities have plenty on offer to inspire young minds and provide lasting memories.

City of Moreton Bay’s Active Holidays program running from 13 to 26 January, provides free activities designed to bring kids together to play, develop skills, and make new friends in a safe, inclusive environment. Qualified and experienced instructors lead each activity, creating a supportive space for kids to learn and grow.

With so much on offer, families can explore the free activities and programs by visiting City of Moreton Bay’s website, activities are searchable by keyword, date, or suburb. While many activities are free, some are available for a very small fee of $5.00 to help cover materials.
