Moreton Bay Community Cabinet accompanies critical project and funding

Moreton Bay was on show yesterday with the Queensland Government hosting community cabinet in the City.
The meeting accompanied a series of announcements for City of Moreton Bay including $7 million in funding for Buchanan Road, an opening date for the new Bribie Island Satellite Hospital and a commitment to an alternative route proposal for Stage 4 of the much needed Bruce Highway Western Alternative, as well as the opportunity for local groups to discuss key issues face to face with Ministers.
This followed an election commitment earlier in the week for a new bridge to Bribie Island.
Mayor Peter Flannery welcomed the spotlight on City of Moreton Bay and thanked the Government for their additional investment in local infrastructure and essential services.
“We continue to advocate long and hard for our residents,” Mayor Flannery said.
“Having Cabinet in City of Moreton Bay gave us a real opportunity to share the many solutions we, as a Council, have already developed to ease infrastructure bottlenecks and better connect essential services for our residents.
“As Australia’s third largest local Government area, with a rapidly growing population, we need to plan now for the future - and that means a resilient road and transport network to manage liveability and affordability.
“It is very pleasing to see the State respond to some of our calls for action when it comes to infrastructure that will not only unlock City of Moreton Bay’s areas of housing growth including Waraba, but also improve access for people already living here.
“Being able to move to the detailed design phase of the Buchanan Road upgrade is a significant milestone for this road corridor and Council looks forward to working closely with the State to make this happen.
“We also welcome the announcement today, following vocal community feedback, to investigate and alternative route, further west for Stage 4 of the much-needed Bruce Highway Western Alternative.
“I also applaud the State for committing to work closely with us and the local community to plan, design and progress catalytic infrastructure for the growth area of Elimbah and surrounds.
“Council continues to work closely with the State and Federal Governments on funding other key infrastructure across the City including the soon-to-start construction of Youngs Crossing Road and the much-needed Pennisula Support Hub in Redcliffe providing important support services for people experiencing homelessness.
“We need to work collaboratively to fund the enormous growth challenge that City of Moreton Bay faces while at the same time maintain the liveability and opportunities that make us so unique.
“I would like to once again thank the State for hosting Community Cabinet in our great city.
“Council will continue to work with all levels of government to ensure our communities here in Moreton Bay have the infrastructure, opportunities, and homes for thriving, vibrant lifestyle now and into the future.”
