Grant Limits Lifted to Help Community Clubs Combat Costs

Community groups in Moreton Bay can now apply for up to $30,000 in grant funding to help make improvements to their clubhouses or facilities, that’s a $10,000 increase from the previous ceiling of $20,000.

Mayor Peter Flannery said Council unanimously agreed to bulk-up the Community Grant Policy to help local groups grapple with rising costs.

“Just as households are struggling with inflation and rising costs, so too are our community clubs and sporting groups,” Mayor Flannery said.

“So this move not only reflects the reality that they’re dealing with, it hopefully also means that they can keep their membership and fees as they are so that families don’t feel additional financial pain.

“Community groups and local sports clubs are the backbone of our region, so Council believes it’s critical that we invest in them the same way they invest in our region’s lifestyle and vibrancy.

“Previously they could apply for up to $20,000 through our Community Grant Policy, but we’ve upped that to $30,000 to help take some financial pressures off them where costs have increased.

“This will help them to develop new or make significant upgrades to their facilities to improve quality of life and also help deliver a better service to the community.

“It’s just one way that Council can help give back to the groups and volunteers who do so much for our communities.”

This came just before Council delivered its 2023-24 Budget on Friday, which includes $3.2 million worth of funding across its grants, sponsorships and discretionary funds programs.

The latest round of Community Facilities Grants will open on 1 July and close on 10 August 2023.
