New flood maps

Moreton Bay Regional Council has released new flood maps of the region.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said it was now quicker and easier than ever to access the latest flood maps and property reports from council’s website.

“Previously people needed to navigate their way through regional maps to find what they were looking for,” the Mayor said.

“Easy-to-use information and all new river, creek and storm tide flood maps are now listed on council’s website by suburb.

“Council is also expanding its flood mapping capability with a new interactive flood mapping tool to be launched in coming months.

“Flood Explorer will allow you to type in an address and zoom in to obtain river, creek and storm tide information about your suburb.

Mayor Sutherland said council had wiped the cost of getting a flood property report.

“Previously applicants were required to submit a hard copy form and pay a $75.00 fee to obtain a flood property report,” the Mayor said.

“It is now completely free to download a flood property report from council’s website.

“By making flood information more readily available, people can better plan for the likelihood of a flood event near them.”
