City of Moreton Bay’s call for funding support to build a dedicated wildlife hospital has been heard, with an election commitment announced today by David Crisafulli if the LNP is elected in October.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery welcomed the $15 million election announcement to deliver a state-of-the-art wildlife hospital at Dakabin.

“City of Moreton Bay has worked tirelessly with the Moreton Bay Wildlife Hospital Foundation over a number of years to get this critical project off the ground,” Mayor Flannery said.

“A concerning gap in the SEQ wildlife hospital network means injured local wildlife have to be driven up to two hours for emergency care at RSPCA in Wacol or Australia Zoo in Beerwah.

“The new facility will significantly reduce travel times and increase wildlife survival rates, while taking a load off hardworking local carers and existing facilities.

“True to our mantra of ‘going green as we grow’, we have allocated a $3 million parcel of Council land at Dakabin to accelerate construction of this much-needed local facility.

“We all have an obligation to protect native animals, and this shows how serious we are about our role as caretakers in this beautiful part of the world.

“I thank the LNP for supporting the establishment of a dedicated wildlife hospital and call on the current State Government to match this election commitment.

“We look forward to discussion with the Government and the opposition to ensure City of Moreton Bay matters and the voices of our community are heard.”

As one of Australia's fastest growing local government areas, City of Moreton Bay matters. We need our fair share of funding so we can future-proof our city and ensure it's a place where our community, economy, lifestyles and environment prosper together.
