Councillor Sandra Ruck (Div 5) said Council's 'Going Green as We Grow' mantra rings true with the community, and 2023-24 budget reflects this.

“Council has responded to the need for a budget that helps the community enjoy the area we live in,” Cr Ruck said.

“Council’s commitment to enjoying the outdoors extends to the $500,000 revitalisation project for Cross Street Park in Deception Bay. The project will include constructing state-of-the-art amenities and park upgrades with cutting-edge features. Moreover, Rothwell residents can anticipate the installation of multiple water bubblers, ensuring convenient access to refreshments while enjoying the beautiful surroundings of Moreton Bay.

“Three land slips will be repaired in Scarborough, some new stairs will be installed at Queens Beach Park to provide foreshore access, and the on-road shared paths along Scarborough Road will undergo significant upgrades. Additionally, Deception Bay Scenic Reserve will be equipped with pathway lighting to enhance safety and foster an inviting environment.

“Acknowledging the growing number of young families in the area, a $150,000 bike track upgrade has been allocated to the PCYC facility in Deception Bay, and the hydrotherapy pool at Deception Bay Aquatic and Fitness Centre will benefit from a surface renewal.

“These upgrades will continue to cater to the community’s needs and promote an active lifestyle.

“In addition to our investments in green space, we are also committed to providing lots of free and low-cost events and activities throughout the year,” Cr Ruck said.

“The events calendar has expanded to encompass over 47 community events this financial year, including Movies in the Park, Jazz and Shiraz, Australia Day celebrations in Scarborough, and the Redcliffe Peninsula Christmas Carols.

“This year’s $264 million capital works programs will deliver on all fronts.

“Infrastructure continues to be a key budget focus in the 2023-24 budget. Notable projects in Division 5 include the renewal of the traffic island on Lipscombe Road in Deception Bay and the construction work on the intersection of Boundary Road in Narangba.

“Design work will also commence on the road rehabilitation for Redcliffe Aerodrome and repairs and resurfacing of the hanger bays.

“Smoother and safer journeys for our local community have also been considered, with $544,000 allocated to rejuvenating road surfaces in the area.

“Over $416,000 has been earmarked for footpath improvements across our division, including Captain Cook Parade, Bonton Avenue, Cross Street, Grosvenor Terrace and Wallin Avenue. Pathways and road improvements make it easier for our community to get out and about,” Cr Ruck said.

The 2023-24 Budget proudly presents $264 million capital works program, underscoring our commitment to delivering the infrastructure and investments that our community needs.
