Div 6: Keeping our character, while looking to the future

“The 2023-24 budget aims to enhance the region's liveability and address the needs of our residents, Cr Winchester said.  

A highlight of the budget is the construction of a new Redcliffe Pensioners Hall, a key deliverable with $5 million allocated this year towards the $7 million project. The new service centre will support individuals experiencing homelessness on the Redcliffe peninsula. It will include a commercial-grade kitchen, amenities, storage, and office space.  

“The rising cost of living and housing availability has created a demand for homelessness services. This facility goes beyond the traditional remit of Council, and I'm proud that we are taking action to support some of the most vulnerable people in our community,” Cr Winchester said.  

“Suttons Beach Pavilion continues to be on our priority list. We have budgeted $1.25 million to plan the revitalise Suttons Beach Park to return this iconic destination to community use, including a new pavilion building.  

“The refurbishment of the Redcliffe Library is another significant investment in this year’s budget. The $1.725 million refurbishment aims to create new internal spaces that enhance flexibility and functionality for the community. Once completed, the library will provide a contemporary space with accessibility in mind.  
“Additionally, Council is dedicated to safeguarding the foreshore from erosion and inundation through the ongoing Charlish Park seawall restoration. Expected to extend into the 2024-25 financial year, this project aims to improve safety and establish a new beachfront access point. 

Cr Winchester emphasised the importance of a vibrant and active community. “Our events calendar has expanded with a free event almost every weekend across the region, including some of your local favourites like our Music in the Park, Movies in the Park, and Pooches in the Park.  

“To support our thriving and active community, Council will continue work to overhaul the netball courts at KR Benson Park, investing $1.8 million this year into this highly popular sporting precinct, thanks to support from the Queensland Government.  

“Furthermore, Bradley Park will receive a $550,000 lighting upgrade, funded by the Federal Government, while we will also be constructing a new Naval Memorial at Gayundah Arboretum Park in Woody Point, and playground upgrades are planned for Bellevue Park, Redcliffe.

In line with Council's commitment to accessible schools, traffic, parking and safety improvements will be implemented around Scarborough State School.  

Council will continue to improve the integrity of our roads and pathways, with nearly $1,711,000 for rejuvenating road surfaces, prioritising smoother and safer roads for local residents. A comprehensive network of footpath improvements are also planned for Yattee Street, Aloomba Court, Downs Street, Ella Street and Meerawa Street in Redcliffe, as well as Cascade Street in Kippa-Ring and Kate Street in Woody Point.  

Budget 2023-24 delivers a $264 million capital works program to provide the infrastructure and investments locals have told us they want to see in their communities via feedback in the Moreton Says survey. This Council wants to ensure our priorities align with our community’s values.
