City of Moreton Bay are keeping their ‘Phins Up’ and proudly extending their partnership with Australia’s newest NRL team, the Dolphins, until 2026.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery noted the continued support underpins the City’s commitment to both professional sport and community development.
“We have backed the Dolphins long before they entered the NRL and will continue to do so. We helped them secure the bid to enter the big league and invested heavily in building Kayo Stadium. Now, we are prouder than ever to continue our legacy together.
“This partnership has brought national exposure to our City, with a gross viewership of 16.5 million over the Dolphins’ 2024 season, backed by a strong interstate fanbase supporting our local team from across the country.
“It is a privilege to have the Dolphins call City of Moreton Bay home, with our partnership strengthening our local economy and creating pathway opportunities for our local junior rugby league clubs.
"With an average crowd attendance of over 10,000 at Kayo Stadium games, we’ve seen an increase in people making use of accommodation, cafes, restaurants, transport, and local attractions. The Dolphins also directly employ over 200 staff, further boosting our economy.
“The Dolphins’ impact goes far beyond the playing field. They are part of our community, supporting grassroots rugby league, inspiring future generations, and driving programs that leave a lasting impact on our City.
“Our partnership with the Dolphins has brought players into our community events while also giving us the opportunity to be involved in their events. Not everyone gets to work alongside elite athletes, so we’re proud to grow this connection and continue supporting each other."
“We are committed to building on our community impact, such as the launch of the Active School Travel program. With the Dolphins’ support, we have encouraged children to stay active by walking to school and educated them on how to do so safely.
"Through initiatives like our library program, the players can inspire young readers to prioritise learning and get excited about visiting their local libraries. With our continued partnership, we are dedicated to achieving more meaningful outcomes for City of Moreton Bay.
“Kicking off our first home game of the season is an exciting moment, made even more special by the Queensland State Emergency Service (SES) participating in the coin toss. As a small gesture of appreciation for their invaluable work in our community, especially over the past three weeks, our partnership with the Dolphins has allowed us to provide members of the SES crew the opportunity to attend the game, right here in City of Moreton Bay,” Mayor Peter Flannery concluded.
Terry Reader, Dolphins CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for the ongoing partnership.
"We have a naturally strong relationship with City of Moreton Bay," said Dolphins' CEO Terry Reader.
"The Dolphins have a footprint that stretches from Brisbane all the way through to Central Queensland, but City of Moreton Bay centres that area, and it is no surprise that a large section of our members reside within that catchment.
"We look forward to continuing to drive awareness of City of Moreton Bay and to further enhance the economic opportunities for people and businesses across the area," Dolphins' CEO Terry Reader concludes.
