Who will get to call the new Deception Bay Community Facility home?
Published 28 April 2021
With construction of the new $2.3 million Deception Bay Community Facility nearly underway, Moreton Bay Regional Council is looking for an environmental and/or cultural community group to become the first tenants.
Expressions of Interest (EOI) are now open to not-for-profit community organisations interested in leasing the space at Joseph Crescent.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the ideal candidate would help support the site’s environmental and cultural significance through educational activities.
“Positioned beside the Deception Bay Conservation Park, we’re looking for a group to help protect and promote the natural environment and cultural heritage in the area,” Mayor Flannery said.
“So, if that sounds like the work you champion and value, please apply today!
“As the former local Councillor for this Division, it’s been a dream of mine to see this project get underway to utilise the former DPI Fisheries site, which has been unused for years.
“This wouldn’t be possible without the $600,000 support of the State Government through their Unite and Recovery Community Stimulus Package program, fast-tracking the project to help support local jobs and the local economy.”
Councillor Sandra Ruck (Div 5) said the EOI presented a fantastic opportunity for a local group to move into a new state-of-the-art facility.
“The new space for the group will include a modern community space boasting facilities including a kitchenette,” Cr Ruck said.
“That’s just the start; the next stage of construction will include play equipment, outdoor gathering spaces, as well as an opportunity for the success group’s input on regeneration planting.
“I look forward to welcoming the new group into this exciting space and be part of transforming it into a thriving place for both residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come.”
Submissions must be received by 12pm Monday 17 May 2021.
