Moreton Bay Region will welcome the best cyclists in Queensland for a touring cycling series through Elimbah and Wamuran on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 June 2021.

The Queensland Road Team Series is a regional racing series that gives the state's leading riders an opportunity to test and develop their skills over a four-round series.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the course will weave through the beautiful rural roads and townships of Elimbah and Wamuran in spectacular form for the first event in the series.

"With some of the most scenic roads to ride in Queensland, we're thrilled to welcome the first round of the racing series to our region," the Mayor said.

"This event is expected to attract more than 500 of the state's best cyclists and spectators, and with that inject an estimated $143,000 into the local economy.

"Whether you come first or just pipped at the post, I have no doubt everyone will enjoy racing here the most."

Race Director Mike Crawley said competitors and spectators can expect a fast and competitive program.

"The conditions for racing are fantastic here in Moreton Bay Region," Mr Crawley said.

"This is a challenging course which will test teamwork and strategy, making it a really exciting race for spectators."

Councillor for Division 12 Tony Latter said the series would be a fantastic event for locals to watch - right from their doorstep.

"The beauty of this event is that you don't need to travel far to watch the action, especially if the race is just outside your house!" Cr Latter said.

"In saying that, please be mindful that the races are expected to cause minor impacts to local traffic, and your patience and cooperation with police and traffic controllers is greatly appreciated."
