Paw-some Day Out with Free Pet Education Events

Looking for a paw-some day out with the whole family?

Bring your best friend along to Moreton Bay Regional Council’s first pet education event on Saturday 10 July at Centenary Lakes, Caboolture.

Come along to Pets in Public Spaces to hear helpful tips and tricks on how to reduce barking, suitable fencing and enclosure options and increase awareness about walking and exercising your dog safely in public.

While aimed at dog owners, Mayor Peter Flannery said the free education sessions would benefit cat owners too.

“The aim of our free pet-friendly education events is to provide you with valuable information and resources on being a responsible pet owner,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Hear about the benefits and your obligation to register your pet, advice on how to keep your dog under control in off-leash areas, how to correctly dispose of your pooch’s poo and more.

“With support from RSPCA, we’re also offering free microchipping for your registered dog at the events.

“No booking is required; however, we ask that you please wear a mask, check in when you arrive and maintain social distancing.”

Over the next 12 months, the program will rotate across Moreton Bay Region to Upper Caboolture, Kallangur, Deception Bay, Clontarf, North Lakes, Petrie, Eatons Hill, Ferny Hills, Narangba, Bongaree and Beachmere.

“The program will run once a month in a new location to encourage as many people as possible to participate and understand their duty to be a responsible pet owner,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Pets are a wonderful addition to any family; however, it is important to understand your responsibilities to help keep our community safe.

“Being a responsible pet owner is much more than providing water, food and a home for your pet.

“It’s also ensuring your pet is registered, microchipped, secured in your property, not creating a nuisance in the community such as roaming or barking, and not causing harm to people or other animals.”

Come along to the first event from 8-12pm, Saturday 10 July at Centenary Lakes, Caboolture.
