Published 01 April 2011

Moreton Bay Regional Council is now providing free Whooping Cough immunisations for parents and grandparents of infants.

Free Whooping Cough vaccinations are now available to all parents, grandparents and any adult living in the same house as an infant 6 months old or younger.

Whooping Cough is a potentially fatal illness that is in epidemic proportions in our region at the moment. Australian Government figures showed that in July last year, Queensland had 687 reported cases of whooping cough, the highest of all states in the country. With the rate of Whooping Cough cases  steadily rising throughout South East Queensland, especially in children under 6 months of age, it is essential to protect your child from this preventable disease.

For those who are not eligible for a free vaccination, Council also provides the vaccine for $37.00 at all immunisation clinics.

Adults who have not been vaccinated in the last 10 years are at risk of contracting and spreading the disease. Please refer to the immunisation calendar (document opens in new window) [PDF 320KB]  for dates and locations of clinics.
