City of Moreton Bay’s call for funding for extra CCTV cameras throughout the City has been heard with a promise from the LNP to provide $250,000 to expand the network if elected.

Mayor Peter Flannery said this network is a crucial resource that helps prevent crime, respond to incidents, and ensure the safety of our communities.

“We welcome a $250,000 election commitment to invest in our CCTV network to keep our community safe if the LNP is elected in the upcoming State election,” he said.

“I’m proud to say City of Moreton Bay has one of the largest local government CCTV networks in Queensland with more than 1,800 CCTV cameras, including a number of portable units, in a range of public places.

“Council takes a very strong stance on public safety, with CCTV infrastructure providing an important deterrent and a valuable tool to help police reduce incidents of local crime.

“We’ve heard the community calls that hooning is a major issue and more needs to be done to crackdown on vandalism and crime.

"By expanding this network, we’re taking a proactive approach to not just solving crimes but preventing them, making our streets safer for everyone.

“Working closely with the Queensland Police Service, Council’s local laws officers and our residents, we’ve been able to target priority areas to help law enforcement respond faster.

“This initiative has played a pivotal role in solving unlawful activities and contributed to a 4% decrease in stolen vehicles across City of Moreton Bay in 2023.

“These portable solar powered CCTV units have three cameras to capture all angles and are deployed on rotation at strategic locations across the City. They also support disaster operations, from flood monitoring to storm surges, ensuring we’re prepared for whatever comes our way.

“Every person in our community deserves to feel safe and this funding commitment for extra CCTV is welcome.”

As one of Australia's fastest growing local government areas, City of Moreton Bay matters. We need our fair share of funding so we can future-proof our city and ensure it's a place where our community, economy, lifestyles and environment prosper together.
