City of Moreton Bay’s call for funding support to upgrade the Deception Bay SES Depot and Emergency Operations Centre has been heard, with an election commitment announced by the LNP if elected in October.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery welcomed the $3.75 million election announcement as a 50% co-contribution alongside Council’s already allocated $3.75 million to deliver the new Depot.

“I thank the LNP for supporting our rapidly growing City and backing these crucial upgrades to the Deception Bay SES Depot and Emergency Operations Centre if elected.

“The current, community-built facility, faces barriers to its daily operations, including storage issues and outdated facilities that no longer meet operational or training demands for City of Moreton Bay.

“The Deception Bay SES Group is in the top 2% of busiest SES groups in Queensland and the City has had a 182% increase in SES service requests over the past year.

“This facility supports over 80,000 residents in the immediate area in addition to being a base for deployments across Queensland when disaster strikes our community.

“Last year alone, the Deception Bay SES Group directly answered more than 250 requests for assistance in their primary response area as well as working across 3 large scale weather events locally resulting in over 500 requests for assistance from Moreton Bay residents, including the flooding at the beginning of 2024.

“I know our 270 volunteers are very thankful of this commitment and I call on the Labor Party and all candidates to match this election commitment.

“As we move into severe weather season, including what we have experienced this week as a case in point, and the relentless pace of emergencies and disasters such as the severe flooding and storm events earlier in the year, this funding support is greatly appreciated.

“We look forward to continued discussion with all candidates to ensure City of Moreton Bay matters and the voices of our community are heard.”

As one of Australia's fastest growing local government areas, City of Moreton Bay matters. We need our fair share of funding so we can future-proof our city and ensure it's a place where our community, economy, lifestyles and environment prosper together.
