City of Moreton Bay has welcomed a $60 million commitment to a TAFE Centre of Excellence in Moreton Bay if the LNP are elected.

Mayor Peter Flannery said a new TAFE in City of Moreton Bay will create valuable educational opportunities closer to home for many residents.

“I’m excited to welcome this commitment that will provide more infrastructure for our growing city,” he said.

“To further support this commitment, Council is pleased to offer the land required for the new TAFE to be built at The Mill site.

“As our city faces rapid growth it’s critical that we can provide education and jobs close to home.

“We know locals want to study closer to home with data from UniSC Moreton Bay campus noting that 70% of students are Moreton Bay residents and an impressive 40% are the first in their family to study.

“Data also shows a projected increase in TAFE attendance of 12-13% from 2021 to 2031, underscoring the need for local educational infrastructure and workforce development.

“Manufacturing is a key industry in our city, so we are keen to support a TAFE that will train and upskill our workforce to meet the needs of local businesses and provide jobs for the future.

“The proximity to UniSC offers potential synergies in shared spaces and along what’s known as the knowledge spine.

“The Mill at Moreton Bay, near UniSC’s Moreton Bay campus, is the ideal location for this combined facility due to its proximity to industry, excellent public transport connectivity, and opportunities for collaboration between vocational and higher education.

“We call on the Labor Party and all candidates to match this election commitment.

“We look forward to continued discussion with all candidates to ensure City of Moreton Bay matters and infrastructure for the future is prioritised.”

As one of Australia's fastest growing local government areas, City of Moreton Bay matters. We need our fair share of funding so we can future-proof our city and ensure it's a place where our community, economy, lifestyles and environment prosper together.
