SES, ENERGEX and Council staff continue to perform essential tasks to remove and clear debris from recent severe weather conditions. Stay safe and report major damages or obstructions.
Almost 1,800 SES tasks were recorded from 3 March to 8 March. Deployments from Western Australia and ACT SES are in the field on operations with City of Moreton Bay SES. Rural Fire Service Queensland is supporting.
No significant infrastructure damage of Council property has been reported, although a number of private properties have suffered significant flood and fallen tree damage.
Currently there are 64 confirmed Council road closures and 15 TMR closures across the City.
Almost 9,000 properties are still affected, across 43 suburbs, with power out. We thank Energex for the tireless work to get power up and running as quickly as possible.
Refuge centres have now closed.
All waste facilities are now open. Waste services continue as normal. Catch up services for general waste collections cancelled Thursday 6 March and Friday 7 March are continuing. Due to some localised road closures, missed services from yesterday (Monday 10 March) and are expected today. Please leave your general waste bins out until these can be serviced. GO and recycling bins will be collected on your next scheduled day. Residents are encouraged to take their missed collections waste to any of our waste management facilities free of charge, if safe to do so.
For residents with sandbags, residents are advised to dispose of sand on their lawn or garden. City of Moreton Bay sandbags are designed to be reused. Store used poly sandbags away from sunlight. They should last at least 12 months. If you empty them of sand, the bag should remain usable for at least 24 months. Once dry, store them safely at home. If residents can’t store them, they can be disposed of in general waste (red top) bins after their contents have been emptied. If you are using hessian sandbags, they cannot be reused and must be disposed.
Over the coming days, expect onshore winds to continue which will combine with an upper trough to maintain some brief, light and isolated showers but on each day only a couple of millimetres of rainfall is predicted by the Bureau of Meteorology.
City of Moreton Bay applauds the resilience of our community and thanks them for supporting one another during the severe weather and recovery.
