Future the focus of 2017 Innovation Awards
Published 19 August 2016
Moreton Bay Regional Council will launch its second annual Moreton Bay Innovation Awards on Friday, 26 August 2017, with an exciting new category for the region’s young inventors.
The inaugural awards were a great success, showcasing some impressive innovations by local entrepreneurs, with the overall winner, Solar Combined Heat and Power, gaining national exposure by featuring on one of Australia’s most popular podcasts, The Mark Bouris Show.
Demonstrating the caliber of the award recipients, the Established Innovation Winner (the New Eye Company) also landed a $150,000 investment from three entrepreneurial ‘sharks’ on the Network Ten program Shark Tank.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said the awards had proven to be a great pathway to exposure and investment for local innovators.
“The inaugural Moreton Bay Innovation Awards demonstrated the rich and diverse talent pool of innovators and inventors we have in this region, giving many local businesses crucial exposure and opening up new investment opportunities,” Mayor Sutherland said.
“For the 2017 awards, as well as continuing all of the original categories that allowed us to showcase an outstanding and diverse array of local innovations, we will introduce a brand new category for young entrepreneurs up to the age of 17.”
“Through the introduction of this new category, we hope to inspire the future entrepreneurs of this region and help them realise their dreams. The next Steve Jobs or Richard Branson could be growing up right here in the Moreton Bay Region and needing a bit of mentoring and encouragement to help them get on their way to greatness.”
Categories and prizes for the 2017 Moreton Bay Innovation Awards are as follows:

“The judges will be looking for things like originality, creativity, competitive advantage, commercial potential, practicality, usability, sustainable design, efficiency, timeliness and collaboration,” Mayor Sutherland said.
