Improved safety for Kallangur State School

Upgrades near Kallangur State School, will enable safer and more active travel by students and their families, thanks to $512,000 in Federal Government funding.
Stage One is now completed in time for the new school year and includes safety and accessibility upgrades to footpaths, crossings, bus stops, cycleways, and roads.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the improvements encourage City of Moreton Bay students to adopt safer and healthier travelling habits to and from school.
“Our Accessible Schools Program creates safer and more accessible environments, encouraging walking and cycling as key parts of student’s daily routines.
“Our local schools are the heart of our neighbourhoods, and projects like this at Kallangur highlight City of Moreton Bay’s commitment to safe, accessible infrastructure for students and the wider community.
“Through careful planning and community consultation, we’re enhancing these spaces to meet community needs and support our growth,” he said.
The project’s initial phase includes pathway upgrades along School Road and Story Road in front of Kallangur State School, and several safety enhancements to the pedestrian network.
Stage Two, currently in design phase, will incorporate three raised pedestrian crossings to further support the active transport network connecting to the school.
Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories, Kristy McBain said:
"Projects like this demonstrate our commitment to supporting City of Moreton Bay and its residents with practical infrastructure solutions that improve safety, connectivity, and quality of life.
“It’s fantastic to see work underway on the safety upgrades to Kallangur State School.
“This is just one of many projects we’re working on with the City of Moreton Bay, as part of over $38.57 million in the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program funding from the Australian Government.
“This project is a great example of the Australian Government working in partnership with others to deliver communities the infrastructure and facilities they need and deserve.”
Cr Yvonne Barlow (Division 7) said she is excited to see the transformative impact these changes will bring to Kallangur State School and the community.
“This is more than just infrastructure; it’s about fostering a culture of safety and accessibility for our children and families,” Cr Yvonne Barlow said.
“These upgrades are designed to make the journey to school a positive experience, empowering students to walk, ride, and connect with their community.”
