Moreton Army Stood Down, But Support Still Available

The crews of volunteers sent out to help clean local streets and suburbs have been congratulated on their incredible efforts, with the Moreton Army now stood down and targeted clean-ups continuing.

Mayor Peter Flannery thanked the Moreton Army and Disaster Relief Australia for their work, and encouraged anyone still in need of help to contact Council.

“The Moreton Army have helped with the heavy lifting by clearing up whole streets that were hit by the ‘rain bomb’ but we know there are still individual houses scattered around our region who will need our help,” he said.

“If you are in a situation requiring help, please call Council or visit our disaster portal online for all relevant information - including about the financial assistance that’s currently available.

“The Moreton Army processed 270 requests for help, and assisted residents at over 100 properties.

“They removed wet furniture, carpets, debris, and helped cleaning inside and outside homes and gardens and we wouldn’t have been able to move so quickly into the recovery phase without them.

“I want to thank everyone who signed up, there were more than 4,000 registered volunteers, so we also appreciate your understanding if you didn’t get a call up.

“For those who didn’t get a chance to volunteer this time can still help in other ways by offering your support around your neighbourhood, donating to Givit or even just letting a neighbour borrow your ute to dump damaged goods while free dumping is available.”

Residents are reminded they can still take their waste to our tips for free for any outstanding rubbish.
