It’s party time! Let the rhythm of Rio take over as Moreton Bay Regional Council and Redcliffe Markets present a Carnaval-style Street Party!

To celebrate the arrival of the Brazilian national women’s football team to the region, and to mark their stay in North Lakes for the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023, this special event will bring a taste of Rio, right here to Moreton Bay.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the special event is not to be missed.

“Experience brilliant costumes, lively samba music, dancing, fireworks, and food from around the world,” he said.

“This is a celebration of our region’s newly founded relationship with Brazil football and our nation’s growing love for the beautiful game.”

“The streets of Redcliffe will come alive with light, laughter, music, and fun. It will be a feast for the senses!

“The Street Party market will rock Redcliffe esplanade on Saturday 22 July and will include Council’s dedicated football activation space where community members can play football-themed games on the foreshore next to the Redcliffe jetty.

“Food trucks, live music and market stalls will complement the space, making for a full Carnaval -style experience.

“We’re thrilled to bring a piece of Rio right here to Moreton Bay, helping welcome the Brazilian national team to our region and attracting football-loving visitors from across Australia and the world.

"Council is working to improve opportunities for women and girls to participate in sports and physical activity, and we hope hosting role-models like these players will help us inspire a new generation of champions, particularly as we look ahead to the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.”

The FIFA Women's World Cup will be held in the southern hemisphere for the first time in 2023 with eight games taking place at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. The Brazilian national team will be housed in North Lakes for ease-of-access to Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex in Burpengary for training and scrimmages and to make travel to the CBD easy for official matches.

“We’re thrilled to showcase our beautiful region through this partnership,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Moreton Bay’s world-class sports facilities are the perfect place to host world-class events and players.

“Council will continue its work to position Moreton Bay as a major sports hub for Queensland and will keep improving and implementing well-planned sport and recreation infrastructure that supports healthy and active lifestyles for our residents.

“We’re striving to provide more vibrant, inclusive and engaging events like this for the people of our region and visitors alike.”
