Moreton Bay SES recognised for emergency response at state awards

Moreton Bay’s State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers have taken out the top gong at the SES Week State Awards for their response to the February/March floods that swept South East Queensland.
Moreton Bay jointly received Assistant Commissioner’s Shield for Operational Response of the Year –alongside Brisbane City SES and Redland City SES, while Caboolture SES Group’s Julie Crocker was recognised for her outstanding work with the Joyce Scorey Shield for Trainer of the Year Award.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the awards were recognition for years of heroic and selfless work to keep the community safe during some of its toughest moments.
“Residents often don’t see the work that goes on behind the scenes to keep the community safe and informed during a disaster situation, but I can tell you it’s an immense effort from many hardworking, selfless individuals coming together for one common goal,” he said.
“It’s something you never wish to be a part of, but I was lucky enough to see firsthand just how professional and dedicated our SES volunteers were during the recent floods that swept South East Queensland.
“These awards are just the recognition they deserve not only for their response this year, but for many years of service to the community.
“This comes after Moreton Bay SES and a number of our individual volunteers were recognised for a plethora of awards, nominations and acknowledgments at the regional awards.
“I’m proud to have worked alongside our SES groups and I feel comforted knowing that we’re in good hands for when disaster strikes in the future.
“So please let this be a reminder during Get Ready Week to prepare your homes and families for future risk by putting together your emergency plans and emergency kits.
