New Show Public Holiday Date
Published 17 August 2021
Mark your calendar, Moreton Bay Region’s postponed show public holiday has a new date - Friday 29 October 2021.
Rescheduled from Monday 9 August due to the recent Covid outbreak, the Queensland Government has announced the People’s Long Weekend to include Moreton Bay Region.
Mayor Peter Flannery supported the date change and said the new long weekend would help bolster business and encourage tourism to the region.
“I hope this new long weekend puts a spring into the step of more than 480,000 locals who have been through the state’s strictest lockdown yet,” Mayor Flannery said.
“I know many people, including myself, would agree there’s nothing better than a long weekend, especially one that we can hopefully all enjoy properly.
“The People’s Long Weekend will encourage locals and visitors to buy local, shop local and holiday locally in Moreton Bay Region.
“The new date will also fall at the same time as Brisbane’s rescheduled Royal Queensland Show holiday, so we’re expecting city dwellers to discover Moreton Bay, their way.
“Whether that’s the charm of the hinterland or cruising along the coast, there’s so many popular self-drive itineraries to choose from.
“We have an incredible line up of major and local events across the region during the second half of this year, which everyone should look to support.
“Getting back to business has only been possible thanks to a whole-of-community effort.
“Particularly, thank you to those who have followed the Queensland Government’s directive to self-isolate at home. Your sacrifice has helped local businesses reopen to keep our local economy kicking on.
“I want locals to know that while times are tough, Moreton Bay is tougher!
“As your local council, we’re doing everything in our power to put this region’s recovery on a fighting foot alongside prioritising your health and safety.
“As an immediate step out of lockdown, we’re giving locals extra time to pay their rates by deferring the rates notice due date by four weeks.
“This adds to a suite of work we’re doing to get behind our community, including $7 million in Community Infrastructure Revitalisation and Community Hardship and Assistance Grants, rates payment plans for those experiencing financial distress and our Local Preference Policy to back local businesses.”
