New Suttons Beach pavilion development application lodged

The Suttons Beach Pavilion redevelopment project is one step closer to construction after City of Moreton Bay lodged the development application for construction of the new pavilion.
Mayor Peter Flannery said he’s excited this milestone has been reached.
“We’re one step closer to a new building on the Suttons Beach foreshore and on track to deliver the new pavilion,” Mayor Flannery said.
“I'm also delighted to announce that Council is providing a $7.4 million funding contribution to add to the $12.1 million approved for the Suttons Beach Pavilion redevelopment through the SEQ Liveability Fund.
“It’s going to be a striking building that befits its coastal location and I am impressed with how the designers have catered to the local climate with a range of comfortable shelters, shade, open spaces, wind and rain protection, and ample airflow to enjoy summer breezes.
“It takes its design influence from extensive community consultation, as well as the history of the site and the surrounding landscape.
“We’ve been working closely with the architects to conduct thorough detailed sun and weather studies, ensuring a robust material selection and optimising the building for shade during summer, and natural light for winter.
“Through this process, we’ve refined parts of the building design by incorporating multiple shade awnings over the ground floor outdoor dining areas, extending the fringe overhang above the circular gathering space to increase the shaded seating areas.
“We’ve also looked to incorporate vertically stacked bricks and tiles, add more sweeping curves to the flat rooftop, and update the fringe to a golden champagne anodized aluminium material, giving the pavilion design a balance between strong lines and curved features.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said the project reinforced Queensland's status as an investment destination.
“South East Queensland is an emerging economic powerhouse, with thriving industries and businesses offering new opportunities for employment and business growth for liveable and sustainable communities for the future,” he said.
“Along with boosting employment, economic development, and tourism in the City of Moreton Bay, this revitalised site will breathe new life into one of South East Queensland’s most popular seaside precincts.
"We are proud that the SEQ Liveability Fund is supporting exciting projects like the Suttons Beach Pavilion redevelopment to deliver generational infrastructure to benefit Queenslanders for decades to come.”
Councillor Karl Winchester (Div 6) said he’s pleased to be making progress on the Suttons Beach Pavilion redevelopment project.
“There’s a lot to appreciate about the new building, with its thoughtful multi-purpose design and the refreshed park area. It’s a space the community can enjoy for generations to come," Cr Winchester said.
“I’m pleased that visitors will be able to continue to enjoy the 1998 rotunda which will be relocated to a new spot along the Suttons Beach foreshore and provide an additional shaded seating option in the park.
“The new design offers both indoor dining and outdoor dining options with three hospitality spaces, enhanced public amenities including a Changing Places facility, a rooftop space, and a public viewing deck with uninterrupted views out to the ocean.”
The construction is expected to start mid 2025. Final materials and colours are subject to detailed design.
This project is funded by City of Moreton Bay and the SEQ Liveability Fund. The Fund is a commitment in the SEQ City Deal, a partnership between the Australian and Queensland Governments, and the Council of Mayors (South East Queensland).
