A vibrant new community space is on the horizon for Samford Parklands, thanks to a $2.2 million funding boost from the Australian Government, matched by City of Moreton Bay.
The new Village Green will become the beating heart of Samford, designed to bring people together and celebrate the area’s unique character.
Mayor Peter Flannery welcomed the Australian Government’s investment and highlighted the significance of the partnership.
“This funding underscores the importance of our City as a thriving hub of growth and opportunity in South East Queensland,” Mayor Flannery said.
“The new Samford Village Green will provide an event-ready and recreational outdoor community space to further support community connection, liveability and accessibility.
“It will not only complement the already vibrant cultural and social environment of the Samford community but also create local jobs during construction and drive economic growth in one of our City’s most cherished recreational areas.”
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said community facilities and parks are at the heart of connected and thriving communities.
“This investment will transform Samford and its surrounding communities by enriching quality of life, enhancing social inclusion, and strengthening connections,” Minister King said.
“Through the Albanese Government’s Thriving Suburbs Program, we’re proud to support City of Moreton Bay with the funding they need to build infrastructure that will create more liveable suburbs, and foster community cohesion.”
Councillor Darren Grimwade (Div 11) said the new Village Green is a huge win for the Samford Parklands area.
“This space is a popular hub for sports and recreation with the local community, and the new Village Green will create more opportunities for people to enjoy the beautiful area,” Cr Grimwade said.
“The space will be enhanced with a large lawn for big gatherings, BBQ and picnic facilities, play equipment for children and landscaped gardens with shade trees. It’ll be the perfect meeting point for visitors and locals alike.”
The Samford Village Green is jointly funded by City of Moreton Bay and the Australian Government’s Thriving Suburbs Program.
Construction of the Samford Village Green is expected to commence in mid-2025 and is anticipated to be completed by late-2026.
