New roadworks driving safer school trips

Morayfield East State School parents and surrounding residents will have peace of mind knowing their streets are now significantly safer and less congested after Council completed $5.6 million worth of construction along Graham Road.

The works include a four-lane cross section between Lomandra Drive and Hargrave Street, upgraded school car park and new pick-up/drop-off zone, three new sets of traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, and upgraded footpaths.

Mayor Peter Flannery said this project wouldn’t have been possible without the Federal Government’s contribution of $703,000 through the Blackspot Funding Grant program.

“Graham Road is a well-known congestion point for residents in Morayfield and historically a high crash area, so I’m incredibly pleased that we could help solve a longstanding issue for residents,” he said.

“Every parent should have peace of mind that their child can commute to and from school safely and have the option to drop them off without getting stuck in traffic.

“Moreton Bay is one of the fastest growing regions in the country and Morayfield in particular has seen huge change over recent years.

“This growth will only continue with an incredible 12 growth fronts across the region, which is why Council is currently in the process of rolling out $174.2 million worth road and transport network upgrades from the 2022-23 Budget.

“I’d like to thank the Federal Government for its contribution to help make this project a reality for the people of Morayfield, and thank you to local residents for their patience during construction,"
