Moreton Bay Regional Council is helping to nurture the leaders of tomorrow by building a new $1 million home for the Clontarf Beach Scouts and providing them with a nominal $1 per annum lease.

Mayor Peter Flannery said this was thanks to a $467,687  contribution from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to help Council deliver community projects and provide COVID stimulus.

“As a father of a young daughter who’s almost old enough to start scouts, I know how important it is to instil those leadership and teamwork qualities from a young age,” he said.

“Clontarf Beach Scouts’ old building was prone to regular flooding during heavy rain so they’ll be thrilled to see their new flood-free home once it’s complete in November.

“The new space boasts a large veranda area, a kitchen, disability access, a PWD (people with disability) compliant unisex toilet and shower, an open activities room and much more.

“Kids will have more room for activities and the branch can cater for new members who want to join.

“I hope this new facility is where children make lifelong memories and start their journey toward a successful adulthood.”

Petrie MP Luke Howarth said this was a great example of the Federal and local governments working together to create great outcomes for locals on the Peninsula.

“This project has been a big boost for local jobs and it will provide a lasting benefit to the Scouts and the Clontarf community,” he said.

“Scouts have a long and rich history in communities across Australia - giving young people the opportunity to be part of a worldwide network and learn important life skills.

“The Morrison Government is dedicated to building better communities right across Australia and this facility will be a great boost to many local families who use this facility.

“I’m proud to work with Council on initiatives like this to stimulate local economy and deliver great projects that have a real impact on the community.”

Cr Karl Winchester (Div 6) said the Council would always be happy to support such a great organisation that does so much for the youth in the community.

“The Clontarf Scout Group and its volunteers work tirelessly to deliver a diverse range of activities to young children, providing them with fun and challenging opportunities to grow through adventures,” he said.

“This will be an exciting new chapter for Clontarf Scouts to welcome children from across the region to play, grow and learn valuable life lessons.

“Scouts bring families together and build kids’ confidence by allowing them to get on with being kids and just having fun.

“I look forward to seeing this new space come alive, which will help encourage young people and families to become involved in Scouting and empower thousands of volunteers who give selflessly to the local communities.
