New specialist medical centre unveiled in booming North Lakes community

Moreton Bay Regional Council today welcomed the official opening of a world-class specialist medical centre right in the heart of the booming North Lakes community.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said the five-storey North Lakes Specialist Medical Centre was a fantastic investment in the future of the area, which continued to go from strength to strength.

“This is an important milestone for North Lakes, and will mean residents no longer have to travel to Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast for specialist treatments, including oncology and cancer care services,” Mayor Sutherland said.

“Many of us know how difficult it can be to help a loved one through specialist treatments, but limiting travel and being able to access quality care closer to home will make a big difference.

“With more than a third of the Moreton Bay Region’s population expected to transition to aged 50 and over in the next 20 years, having quality health care at our doorstep is vitally important.

“The North Lakes Specialist Medical Centre is a very welcome addition to our region’s important health care network.”

Cornerstone Building Developments Director, Simon Heazlewood, said the 13,000 m2 specialist centre, spearheaded by Dr Vern Heazlewood, boasted a number of outstanding features.

“The state-of-the-art centre offers 38 medical tenancies including radiology, pathology, dental, pediatric dental, urology, cardiology, and is also home to a pharmacy and the North Lakes Doctors,” Mr Heazlewood said.

“The centre is also NBN connected, allowing for e-health services, video conferencing and sharing large diagnostic files.

“It also features a café and is within walking distance to Westfield shopping centre, the new cinemas and IKEA - handy for people waiting for loved ones in medical appointments.”

The centre’s establishment was led by Dr Vern Heazlewood, who was awarded the Centenary Medal in 2003 by the Prime Minister for his extensive work in establishing care facilities, early learning centres and private colleges.

Dr Heazlewood has extensive experience working in the Moreton Bay Region - at the Caboolture Private Hospital and Peninsula Private Hospital.

Mayor Sutherland said over the past 17 years, North Lakes had transformed from 1,036 hectares of farmland into one of the Moreton Bay Region’s premier health, commercial and residential hubs, and home to more than 20,000 residents.

“We’re continuing to see investment in North Lakes around every corner, with the all-new IKEA store and next stage of Westfield North Lakes both due for completion later this year,” he said.

“Such rapid growth means we’re a region hungry for vital infrastructure and services.

“I thank Cornerstone Building Developments and Keymax Property Group for investing in our region and congratulate Dr Vern Heazlewood and his team on what I’m sure will be a fantastic facility.”
