City of Moreton Bay is looking after local sport with works recently approved for three new facilities at Bray Park, Kippa-Ring, and Brendale.
Les Hughes Sports Complex, Bray Park will receive a new $4.5 million netball clubhouse for the Pine Rivers Netball Association to service existing courts. Detailed design is scheduled for completion mid-2024. Council has received a funding notification from the Federal Government through the Investing in Our Communities program to the value of $1.5 million. This funding is for the construction phase of the project, which is expected to take place in 2024-26 financial years.
Talobilla Park Softball Clubhouse, Kippa-Ring is in line for a $4.5 million upgrade enhancing it to a regional association standard for the Redcliffe Leagues Softball Association. Detailed design is scheduled to be completed by mid-2024.
Council will also build a new $550,000 amenities building at South Pine Sports Complex, Brendale, so the community can access equipment for use at the sports fields. Detailed design is scheduled to be completed by mid-2024.
Mayor Peter Flannery said City of Moreton Bay was dedicated to providing residents with the best possible community sporting facilities.
“City of Moreton Bay has a strong track record of having some of the best community sporting facilities in South East Queensland but we’re not resting on our laurels,” he said.
“Sport is an important social connector for our community and provides invaluable health benefits and cohesion.
“The more Council invests into facilities, the more we empower our local clubs to deliver high quality sport and recreation services to our residents and visitors.
“It also supports our goals to develop and raise the profile of women’s sport in the region by increasing participation across all sports in our beautiful city.
“It’s especially important to ensure our facilities are up to date as we continue to grow and welcome new residents to Moreton Bay.”
Councillor Mick Gillam (Div 8) said the new Pine Rivers Netball Association clubhouse will replace the 40-year-old building, which will better house for the 2,000 members and their families who use the facility every weekend for matches and through the week training.
“The new clubhouse will help the Pine Rivers Netball Association continue to grow the sport to even more young girls and boys,” he said.
Councillor Sandra Ruck (Div 5) said upgrades to Talobilla Park would only strengthen the facility as one of the best in Australia for softball and baseball.
“The softball community in Moreton Bay is incredibly strong and we want to remain one of the best in not only Queens land but Australia, by making sure our facilities are the best they can be,” she said.
Councillor Cath Tonks (Div 9) said South Pine Sports Complex was growing into one of the best community sports precincts in Queensland.
“Roughly 10,000 people participate in all kinds of sports within the South Pine Sports Complex on a weekly basis, so this upgrade will help locals access equipment and make it an even better experience for all users.”
