Nominations open for Moreton Bay Region Art Prize 2023
Published 09 March 2023
Local artists could soon have their brush with fame by nominating their work for the Moreton Bay Region Art Prize 2023, before April 22.
Mayor Peter Flannery said this is the region’s premier local art award that supports and celebrates the diverse creative talents of Moreton Bay artists.
“Every year I’m always amazed by the calibre of work being produced in Moreton Bay, as a region that always punches well above its weight,” he said.
“Since changing the criteria to be an art prize for locals, we’ve seen some amazing works submitted and we’ve rightfully celebrated them with great pride by featuring them in a finalists’ exhibition and awards ceremony.
“The prize is also open to local indigenous people living off Country who identify as Kabi Kabi, Turrbal or Jinibara Traditional Custodian groups to help bridge the gap with our local First Nations people.
“The total prize pool of $10,000 will see $5,000 awarded to the winner, $3,000 for second prize, $1,500 for third prize and $500 for the People’s Choice Award.
“It shows Council’s commitment to fostering and nurturing a strong art community in Moreton Bay, and to give opportunities for locals to succeed.
“The finalist artworks will be displayed at the Pine Rivers Art Gallery from June 3 to August 19 as part of the Moreton Bay Region Art Prize exhibition, for everyone to enjoy.
“Artists may also be selected to be part of our annual Outdoor Gallery program and see their works come to life on vinyl banners at 12 public places across the region.
“When the banners are eventually removed, they will be upcycled into picnic mats which will be sold in Council galleries to give artists an opportunity to see their works become a product.
“If any of this excites you as a local artist, or you know someone who should enter their artwork, make sure they get their nominations in before April 22.”
