Attributed to a Council spokesperson:
City of Moreton Bay today supported the continued community use of Old Petrie Town.
This was a key recommendation of the Old Petrie Town Councillor Taskforce set up in November 2024 to oversee the site’s transition from Y Queensland to City of Moreton Bay from 1 July 2025.
The Old Petrie Town Councillor Taskforce considered site assessments by Council officers, and expert external advisers, to determine the site’s future.
Council agreed to a master plan being developed by June this year and supported the continued use of infrastructure at the site where it is safe and compliant.
The Old Petrie Town Councillor Taskforce also recommended that community leases be entered into by City of Moreton Bay for registered community groups currently operating at the site.
It was agreed that commercial leases shall be tendered, evaluated and awarded in accordance with the Local Government Act 2009 and Local Government Regulation 2012.
City of Moreton Bay will now engage with key stakeholders following Council’s endorsement of the Old Petrie Town Councillor Taskforce recommendations at today’s meeting.
For more than 25 years, Y Queensland and City of Moreton Bay have worked together to activate the unique site that is Old Petrie Town.
City of Moreton Bay leases the land at 901 Dayboro Road known as Old Petrie Town to Y Queensland.
Y Queensland has been on the site since 1998 and held the head-lease for the site since 2005, managing sub-leasing and sub-licensing during this period.
Currently, all sub-leasing arrangements are the responsibility of Y Queensland. City of Moreton Bay will manage the Old Petrie Town site from 1 July 2025.
The Old Petrie Town Councillor Taskforce members were Cr Adam Hain, Cr Yvonne Barlow, Cr Jim Moloney, Cr Cath Tonks and Cr Darren Grimwade.
