Outdoor Australia Day events cancelled
Published 25 January 2013
Moreton Bay Regional Council has reluctantly announced all three of its outdoor Australia Day events have been cancelled due to forecast heavy rain associated with ex-tropical cyclone Oswald.
A severe weather warning has this afternoon been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology with strong winds and heavy rainfall forecast for Australia Day.
The weather warning has left council with no choice but to cancel its planned outdoor Australia Day events at Redcliffe, Bribie Island and Strathpine.
Bribie Island Lions Club has also decided not to go ahead with its planned Australia Day breakfast due to the forecast severe weather.
Moreton Bay Regional Council regrets any inconvenience the cancellation of its outdoor Australia Day events may cause.
The Australia Day citizenship ceremony which is undercover at the Strathpine Community Centre will go ahead as planned tomorrow.
Council has been advised by the Redcliffe RSL that the cadet march and flag raising ceremony will continue as planned from 7:30 AM, as will the recovery of the time capsule at Old Petrie Town tomorrow afternoon.
