Have Your Say: Proposed Planning Scheme Amendment
Published 06 August 2021
Everything from the green spaces in which we play, the roads that connect our neighbourhoods and even stormwater systems that help keep our bay healthy - have recently undergone a review to ensure they keep pace with growth pressures, and Council is now seeking submissions from the community on the proposed plan.
Consultation is now underway on the proposed Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP) Interim Amendment No. 1, which focusses on planning for public parks, transport and stormwater infrastructure networks within the Priority Infrastructure Area.
Mayor Peter Flannery said it was important to update Council’s 2017 LGIP so services can be provided to meet current community needs and respond to growth and changing demand across Moreton Bay Region.
“We’re asking the community to provide feedback on our proposed amendment so we can identify and prioritise the infrastructure needed to support the forecast residential and commercial growth within the Priority Infrastructure Area over the next 10-15 years,” Mayor Flannery said.
“This is where vital ‘trunk’ infrastructure is crucial for a thriving and healthy community.
“We’re proud to provide much of the infrastructure across our region that we use and rely on every day.
“From our parks and sporting fields in which we play and relax, pathways on which we cycle and walk and roads that connect our neighbourhoods.
“It’s also the systems that manage the impact of development on our floodplains and our waterways’ health.
“This proposed amendment to our planning scheme focuses on three key networks including public parks and land for community facilities, transport and stormwater.
“This is just one of the many initiatives we’re undertaking to ensure our planning scheme better reflects our community’s needs.
“Ultimately, we want to help build a better place for residents to live today, tomorrow and the next 20 years.”
Submissions are open until Friday 20 August 2021.
