Qld Excellence Award: Best Place To Play Two Years In A Row
Published 04 June 2021
For the second year running, Moreton Bay Region has been named one of the best places to play in all of Queensland.
The Mill Water Park in Petrie has taken out the prestigious Playspace Award for a facility over $500,000 at the Parks and Leisure Australia 2021 Queensland Region Excellence Awards.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the water park was also in the running for the top spot, however narrowly missed out.
“The Mill Water Park was also highly commended as Park of the Year, which is no surprise given how many locals and visitors are travelling to use the new play space,” the Mayor said.
“This particular project has become a destination within its own right, with data telling us families are coming from as far afield as Bribie Island and The Hills District, and outside the region as south as Chermside.
“We all know that Moreton Bay Region is the best place to live, work and play and now it’s official - two years in a row!
“Last year The Hills District All Abilities Playground at Leslie Patrick Park won in this same category, which demonstrates how we are continually pushing the boundaries of how we play in Moreton Bay Region.
“These are big, expensive, visionary projects that are invaluable to our community that bring untold value in terms of the vibrancy and recreation opportunities.
“It’s also a testament to this Council, which is willing to walk the talk when it comes to investing the money needed to invigorate the liveability of our region as our population grows."
Located within The Mill at Moreton Bay, the space features two playgrounds, flying fox, splash pad with a water bucket, extensive green space with cricket pitch and sheltered barbecue areas.
“Congratulations to everyone involved, from our parks planning team to the consultant team, play designers and contractors,” the Mayor said.
“You have again shown that collaboration is the key to success to creating important community projects for residents to enjoy.”
Each year, Parks and Leisure Australia acknowledges the best of the best in the sports, recreation and leisure industry through its prestigious excellence awards.
Collaborators on The Mill Water Park project include JMac Constructions, Advisian, Playscape Creations, O2 Landscape Architecture and ENE-HUB.
